Project 1: Diagramming Architectural Principles

Our objectives for our first assignment were to identify architects and their works, examine and 'diagram' selected architects' architectural work, and build fundamental architectural compositions of solids, planes, lines, and frames.

REFLECTION:
Being a group leader managing seven people has been both challenging and rewarding. Effective communication, recognizing individual strengths, and setting clear goals have been crucial in fostering teamwork and achieving objectives. Balancing individual needs and team goals has been demanding but rewarding when finding the right balance. Overcoming conflicts and embracing flexibility has taught valuable lessons. Leading this diverse group has been a transformative experience, offering personal and professional growth. It's a privilege to guide and collaborate with such a dynamic team, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn and succeed together.

Project 2: Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality CONTEMPLATIVE PAVILLION

Welcome visitors to your site with a short, engaging introduction. Double click to edit and Our major job in this assignment is to design and build a Tropical Rainforest Discovery Platform with a maximum volume of 125 m3. We must apply the architectural ideas from the first assignment, as well as investigate conceptual and operational techniques, in order to create a major gesture of architectural spaces. We will need to define the architectural principles that we have chosen. We must investigate the possible meanings and implications of these architectural principles, as they will inform two areas: producing forms and crafting places.

REFLECTION: After getting experience from the first project things got better in the second project.Managing a team of three people in another project presented its unique set of challenges and rewards. With a smaller group, communication was more intimate and direct, fostering a close-knit environment. Identifying and leveraging each team member's strengths was easier, leading to efficient task allocation. Setting clear goals and expectations allowed for a focused approach to achieving our objectives. Handling conflicts was less complex, and the team's adaptability shone through when facing unexpected hurdles. Leading this smaller group cultivated a stronger sense of camaraderie and mutual support. It showcased the significance of teamwork, making the experience gratifying and a source of personal growth.

Project 3 : Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality + Context + User: THE TROPICAL SANCTUARY

Students have to develop a Tropical Wildlife Discovery Unit for the Taman Botani Negara (National Botanical Park) in Shah Alam. An Observation Unit is a structure in the tropical forest that is used to view the wildlife. This Discovery Unit should also feature a tropical rainforest discovery area for relaxing, talking, and other activities within the maximum built-up space. The construction should have a maximum built-up area of 100sqm and be able to comfortably host two persons, including myself and a discovery partner, in a short period of time (2-3 days).

Final Project

Finally, after many weeks of work, sweat, and tears, my final model, Boundless Loop, has emerged. It's a metaphor for how easy it is to become bored by life in the midst of our monotonous and repetitive daily routines. Even in the routine of our lives, there is a degree of uniqueness that defines each moment. The people we interact with, the conversations we have, and the emotions we experience all fluctuate slightly from day to day. The sun's changing light, nature's dynamic patterns, and changes in our surroundings give an ongoing supply of novelty. Life, in its purest form, is a web of uncountable distinct moments, each with its own charm and significance.

REFLECTION: Architectural Design Studio 2 has been an enlightening journey, introducing the principles and methods of design thinking in various fields. Focused on "User and Context," the studio explored the relationship between users and their natural environment. Through precedent studies and conceptualization exercises, we delved into architectural spaces and constructions. The Tropical Rainforest Discovery Platform project challenged us to create a spatial experience within a limited volume, applying architectural principles to craft significant architectural spaces. The Tropical Wildlife Discovery Unit project further expanded our skills, designing structures in harmony with Taman Botani Negara. Throughout the semester, I learned to blend context, user, and structure, cherishing nature's influence on design and embracing each moment's unique appeal.
